On Monday, October 3rd, popular actor Ando Masanobu attended the stage greeting after the preview screening of his new movie “Smuggler – Omae no Mirai wo Hakobe” at The Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan in Tokyo.

“Smuggler” is Ando’s first Japanese production in four years, but he is confident and said, “I think that this is my best movie so far. I’m very satisfied with my self.” He also looked back at the years and said, “I’ve been separated from Japan for a little while, but I’ve definitely come across many wonderful production during those four years.

It was in 2007, when the actor left Japan in order to travel throughout Asia to work for various foreign productions and to polish his own abilities.

He explained, “I thought that it would be a great chance to meet various creators outside of Japan. It just felt like I would miss those chances if I immediately returned back to Japan after just one movie.

As for his reason to return to Japan now, he said, “I haven’t been here for my fans for over four years. It must have been painful for them and I felt like I finally had to make up for that pain.

In “Smuggler” he is playing a legendary assassin of the Chinese mafia. He had to perfect his Chinese and tone his body in order to perfectly portray his character. Ando also had to film various action scenes, including one difficult scene that caused him a couple of fractured ribs and other injuries.

He commented, “I was told that it’s one of the most important scenes of the movie, so I did everything to get it done right, no matter how much pain or how many injuries.

Don’t miss Ando’s passionate performance and look forward to the opening of “Smuggler” in Japanese cinemas on October 22nd.
