The Secret World of Arrietty

Did you see "The Muppets" this weekend? If so, you probably saw the trailer for "The Secret World of Arriety,"

the new film from Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. What do you think? What's your favorite Ghibli movie?


Japan Box Office Report – November 26th/27th

There are only two new entries in the top ten this weekend, “Kaibutsu-kun" and “Happy Feet Two”.

The movie adaption of the drama “Kaibutsu-kun“, starring Arashi’s Ohno Satoshi, took the box office chart by storm. 431,093 people went to see the movie over the weekend, resulting in an amazing first-weekend revenue of 581,038,150 Yen (7.46 million USD).

Out of all those people, 75% decided to see the 3D version rather than the non-3D version of the movie. Moreover, it should be noted that “Kaibutsu-kun” exceeded the first-weekend result of now second place, “Suteki na Kanashibari“, by 15%. However, the late start might make it difficult to compete for the title of the most successful Japanese movie of 2011. The expected total revenue of over 4 billion Yen (51.36 million USD) should be able to make up for lost title.

Meanwhile, “Suteki na Kanashibari” already mobilized more than 2.5 million people and cleared the 3 billion Yen (38.52 million USD) mark. “Kaiji 2” dropped down to third place. This means that people at movie distributor Toho can give themselves a pat on the back again for claiming the top three of the box office chart once again this year.

Moneyball“, in at the fourth position, is still going strong as well and could actually reach the 1 billion Yen (12.84 million USD) mark sooner or later.

As already mentioned, “Happy Feet Two” was the second new entry in the top ten this weekend. The animated movie attracted 40,750 people and grossed 54,031,300 Yen (693,869 USD). You just can’t get a lot of Japanese people to watch an animated CG movie, unless you’re a company called Pixar.

ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION reveals details on their best-of album

Rock band ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION has revealed the details for their upcoming best-of album!

The band’s first best-of album will be titled “BEST HIT AKG“, and is slated for release on January 18th. For the album, they have selected 16 songs from their 6 full length albums and 2 mini-albums. It will also contain their latest single, “Marching Band“, for a total of 17 tracks.

The limited edition will come with a DVD titled “Return To The Basics vol.1“. The DVD will contain all songs from their first album, “Kimi Tsunagi Five M“, that the band performed during their studio live.

To coincide the best-of album, their upcoming arena tour has been given the title “ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION ‘BEST HIT AKG’“. Ticket pre-orders will start on November 30th for those who purchase a copy of “Marching Band”.

Harajuku Fashion Walk #7 – Pictures of Colorful Japanese Street Fashion on Parade












Harajuku Fashion Walk is an event with which regular readers of TokyoFashion.com are very familiar. In addition to reporting on several of the main Harajuku Fashion Walk events, we had a great time last month at the Harajuku Fashion Walk Halloween Party. We’ve also been taking Harajuku street snaps of several of the event’s organizers – and many of the participants – for years. So, the 7th edition of Harajuku Fashion Walk, held this weekend, shouldn’t need too much introduction.

The basic goal of Harajuku Fashion Walk is to provide a fun and supportive environment so that participants (most people who participate are Japanese, but everyone from around the world is welcome) can feel confident wearing whatever type of fashion they enjoy (lolita, fairy kei, dolly kei, visual kei, handmade, etc.) – even if it’s something that they might be shy about wearing in other circumstances. Participants encourage each to have confidence in their choice of fashion. This environment makes Harajuku Fashion Walk a great place for people to make new friends – and many strong friendships have been forged at HFW.

Harajuku Fashion Walk also contributes to the street culture of Harajuku. It’s always a delight for us to see large crowds break into smiles simultaneously as the parade of colorfully dressed Harajuku Fashion Walkers passes by. Cameras and smartphones are sure to follow anywhere HFW leads.

THE SONICS & THE BAWDIES to hold a tour together in 2012


THE SONICS and THE BAWDIES have announced that they’ll be holding a tour together in spring of 2012.

The tour was originally scheduled to be held earlier this year, but was forced to cancel due to the Tohoku Earthquake.

Titled “THE SONICS×THE BAWDIES JAPAN TOUR 2012“, the tour has so far established three dates. The bands will perform on March 29th at Shinkiba STUDIO COAST, on the 31st at Nagoya CLUB DIAMOND HALL, and on April 1st at Nanba Hatch.

Ticket information will be available on THE BAWDIES’ official website in the upcoming days.

Yummy Food at Cafe-Master

Cafe Master merupakan cafe yang berkawasan di daerah Tokyo - Japan.
Cafe ini memiliki konsep yang sangat unik.. Menurut teman saya yang pernah berkunjung ke cafe tersebut, cafe ini menyuguhkan makanan-makanan yang sangat unik dalam penataannya namun sangat enak sekali untuk di cicipi.. Sooo Delicious ~
Akan tetapi tidak hanya di Tokyo saja, cafe ini sudah membuka cabangnya di Harajuku maupun Shibuya ..

Kopi yang sangat ingin aku coba.. Tidak hanya unik akan tetapi kopi ini jika diminum dapat menenangkan pikiran sejenak maupun perasaan.


Sajian terpopuler di cafe Shibuya ketika sedang bersantai di dalam cafe tersebut, Soo Yummy ~


Tiramisu Cake yang menggugah selera ini merupakan cake yang paling banyak di pesan oleh orang-orang di Shibuya sana.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (The Princess of Harajuku) and 6%DOKIDOKI (one of Harajuku’s most iconic fashion brands) are joining forces with Rune Naito (the father of “kawaii”) to host a huge party in Los Angeles on December 9, 2011. (The official Facebook page for the event is here.)


This will be Kyary’s debut in America – and there will be a popup shop, art show, limited edition Medicom toys, and much much more! Launching a new chapter in Japan’s iconic Kawaii movement, Friday, December 9 marks the world debut of RUNE BOUTIQUE at Royal/T in Culver City. A passport to Japanese pop culture and beyond, RUNE BOUTIQUE’s World Debut Party will immerse guests in a multi-faceted experience, celebrating the roots of Kawaii alongside luminaries from Japan’s art, fashion and music worlds.

RUNE BOUTIQUE represents the new, cutting edge brand collaboration from renowned creative director and fashion designer Sebastian Masuda of 6%DOKIDOKI and the late Japanese illustrator Rune Naito. Considered the father of Japan’s Kawaii movement, Naito’s cute, feminine imagery set the direction for a global trend that would inspire generations of art, music, fashion and cuisine to come.


Four key visual elements and themes from Rune Naito’s original artwork – Candy, Drugs, Beauty, and Savon – have been reinterpreted by Sebastian Masuda and infused with his signature creative direction and dreamy girl imagery, featuring models from Harajuku’s street fashion movement: Yuka, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, Shiho Takechi, and Fumiko Aoyagi. Harajuku Girl’s Eclectic Mix of Metal Addiction, Brother & Nozomi Ishiguro

Ai is a 22-year-old beautician that we photographed in Harajuku. She’s wearing a short skirt and jacket, both from Metal Addiction, with an ethnic print scarf. Her unique boots trimmed with fabric and fur are from Brother. She’s carrying a Nozomi Ishiguro shoulder bag made from recycled denim and lace.

Ai is also wearing a handmade hair ornament from YEAH RIGHT!! and has her hair fashioned in a cute braided style. We asked about her favorite designer and her answer was Nozomi Ishiguro.
